Randell is the perfect place to take a child when staying at Shadyside Inn Suites to reward them. Carnegie Museum of Natural History, 1.4 Miles from your Suite. View Map

Founded in 1896 by industrialist Andrew Carnegie, this 115,000 sq. ft. facility houses collections from all over the world. The museum features a wide variety of exhibits but is best known for its unique dinosaur collection. The collection is one of the biggest showcases of Jurassic period dinosaurs in the United States. Another exhibit not to be missed is the Hillman Hall of Minerals and Gems which features over 1300 different specimens. Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, 0.8 Miles from your Suite. View Map

Just a half mile trek from your hotel suite is a magical place: perched atop a sloping green park with stone cherubs and hidden gardens, you’ll see a tremendous yellow building that has stood as a lighthouse for artists and art-lovers in Pittsburgh for over 50 years.  The Pittsburgh Center for the Arts offers an ever-shifting array of local artist exhibits, youth and adult art classes, summer camps, professional workspaces, art fairs, and oodles more.  The Center merged with Pittsburgh Filmmakers a few years back to educate and exhibit across the whole spectrum of art, from sculpture to silver screen.  Whether you feel like swinging by the galleries (and gift shop) after a wander through Mellon Park, improving your artistic wizardry, or attending a film festival, it is incredibly hard to avoid being enchanted by the PCA.

The pancakes are so good that President Obama flew Pamela to the White House to serve them for breakfast. The atmosphere is decidedly old style diner all the way. Be sure to get there early because the lines on Saturday and Sunday morning are usually long. Rain, Snow, Blizzard, it won’t matter. People line up early and often. One of the major benefits of staying at Mansion Suites is that no matter which suite you pick, you can roll out of bed and get a world class breakfast. Yeah, pizza is pizza…until you try Dinette. The place feels like an Ikea meets industrial design. It’s airy, modern, and has an exposed kitchen. It’s hip, its very Californian, and it happens to be the best Pizza in the East End. Located in the East Side development, Dinette is more than just great pizza, its healthy food that is always fresh and a menu that changes with the season. Each pizza is made to perfection in their wood fire stove. Its not your standard greasy dish, its tasty, fresh and has a very European flavor. Dinette also features other healthy choices on their menu and has a nice selection of wine and spirits. Be sure to go early since the place is usually packed after 7pm. Although they do not deliver, you can order take out if you show up in person and place the order. You can count on a steady sprinkle of curious Apple-seedlings entering the store, and a dozen azure employees rotating on and off shift.
